Lancashire Mind has introduced a new mascot to aid community engagement and visits to schools and strategic community events associated with Lancashire Mind. The goal is to promote the charity and encourage people to have conversations with the team about their work and the support available at Lancashire Mind. The bear, which will be named by the winner of the ‘Name Our Bear’ competition, recently visited the SPAR Distribution Centre.
Thomas Murphy, Marketing Manager at James Hall & Co. Ltd, said: “It is great to be able to support Lancashire Mind with the mascot. We know it will raise awareness about the charity’s fantastic work. It is always a privilege to work with Lancashire Mind – they constantly bring something new to the table and our team loves to get involved in their fundraising events.”
The partnership aligns with SPAR’s commitment to promoting positive mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.
James Hall & Co. is also a long-term sponsor of the Lancashire School Games, supporting thousands of children with opportunities to compete and achieve personal bests. Organised and run by Active Lancashire and the School Games Organiser Network, the Games will be sponsored for a 17th consecutive year by James Hall & Co. Ltd.
In 2023, Active Lancashire continues to provide events within the SPAR Lancashire School Games to help young people recover from the effects of the pandemic.
The SPAR UK partner is also supporting a number of local running events known as ‘The SPAR Series’, aimed at inspiring active lifestyles in communities. ‘The SPAR Series’ combines the City of Preston 10k, Ron Hill Accrington 10k, and the iconic Tour of Tameside, which includes four events to form an unmissable racing sequence. The Quest Media Network, a local media group, organises these events with the goal of creating enjoyable experiences for the entire community.
With a local focus in mind, the mission is to encourage active lifestyles, and healthy eating, ultimately contributing to happier communities. As the headline sponsor, SPAR is instrumental in ensuring that events like this are accessible to everyone.
“We are excited to extend our partnership with Quest Media Network. Over the past few years, we have been the headline sponsor of the SPAR City of Preston 10K, which has been a great success, and to be able to grow the partnership into ‘The SPAR Series’ allows us to connect and engage with more local communities, which is fantastic”, said Tom Murphy.

The UK became a SPAR member in 1956 when SPAR International granted the SPAR licence to a group of independent wholesalers. As a result, there are now five regional partners in the UK. A central office in London provides national marketing and buying services for the group.
SPAR has led the highly competitive convenience market in the UK for many years. Always innovative, the five regional partners continue to grow the brand. SPAR UK comprises independently owned licensed retailers and company-owned stores. These include forecourts, airports, train stations, city centres, and local neighbourhood stores.
