SPAR stores in Austria ensuring continuous food supply

March 18, 2020 IN THE CATEGORY: COVID-19

Food retailing is experiencing increased purchasing in all regions in Austria as a result of the current COVID-19 epidemic. Staples such as pasta, rice, canned and hygiene products, as well as fresh vegetables are particularly popular among shoppers. SPAR Austria is reassuring customers that SPAR stores across the nation are supplied with fresh food every day, their warehouses are fully stocked, and logistics are running smoothly.

SPAR Austria is appealing to all customers that they shop as they usually would to ensure that the store shelves can be kept adequately stocked for all customers to be able to purchase what they need.

Deliveries of food products secured

SPAR Austria continuously orders goods from suppliers and production remains at full speed, safeguarding the supply of food products delivered to SPAR’s warehouses.

SPAR Austria spokeswoman, Nicole Berkmann, is part of the crisis team taking care of securing food supplies in times of crisis. She confirms that the basic supply of food is safeguarded. The six central warehouses in the country could also deliver across regions if one location were to close.

“We are fully stocked in almost all stores. Although there are fewer people coming to the stores, they buy more on average. Obviously some are shopping for others”, Nicole Berkmann said.

Deliveries to quarantine areas

SPAR is currently also supplying products to quarantined areas in a safe manner. All SPAR stores in St. Anton and in the Paznaun valley continue to be open.

SPAR employees in the stores

SPAR employees are a treasured asset to the communities they serve. The SPAR team is proud to be able to make an important contribution to ensuring the supply of food products to the population. If team members have issues arranging childcare, SPAR Austria is committed to finding solutions together with the parents and has considered several options for this. Due to the partial closure of restaurants from Monday 16 March onwards, restaurant employees of SPAR and INTERSPAR stores can help out to ensure that all stores are staffed with a sufficient number of team members to maintain health and safety standards.
