SPAR Netherlands is supporting the Urban Athletics Series, bringing athletics and promoting healthy lifestyles, to three city centres in the country through a series of competitions. Local communities and fans can admire top athletes perform while those who are inspired to try the athletics disciplines are able to venture on the track under the guidance of professional athletes. The summer school vacation offered many children the possibility to experience a sprint environment for themselves, using proper start blocks and being given advice by the professional athletes onsite. To allow for a safe and enjoyable experience for all involved, preventative measures are being taken to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 disease.
SPAR Netherlands was also proud to be a sponsor of the Asics National Athletics Championship that took place in Utrecht in the last weekend of August. SPAR Netherlands brought its mobile, single occupancy SPAR store to the venue, showcasing how the brand is able to adapt and offer convenient solutions even in these challenging times. This year, the event was held without fans present, however the athletes, coaches and volunteers at the stadium were be able to enjoy the healthy and innovative products available from the SPAR mobile store.

SPAR Netherlands, by fostering the association between the brand and sports, highlights this focus on promoting healthy lifestyles. About SPAR Netherlands
The SPAR Brand was founded in the Netherlands in 1932 by the Dutch wholesaler, Adriaan van Well and 16 independent retailers. It was established as a voluntary chain of grocers under the name DESPAR – an acronym of a slogan created by van Well to describe the organisation: Door Eendrachtig Samenwerken Profiteren Allen Regelmatig, which translates in English to All benefit from joint co-operation. By the end of the 1950s, SPAR was the largest food organisation in the Netherlands.
