SPAR Guangdong on 16 January opened a new hypermarket in the Chinese city of Zhuhai. SPAR Mingtai Hypermarket offers nearly 10,000 SKUs on a sales area of 2,000m2, serving over 60,000 households in the surrounding communities. The store’s modern look and feel, extensive category assortment, and comfortable instore atmosphere add to its pleasant shopping experience.  

As part of the ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic, SPAR team members take all possible measures to safeguard instore health and wellbeing, including checking customers’ temperature at the entrance, wearing face masks and offering hand sanitiser. New technologies, such as self-checkout machines and facial recognition payment systems, allow shoppers to check out more quickly. 

Local champion
In December 2020, the local government of Dongguan, China, recognised SPAR Guangdong as a regional champion in the fight against COVID-19 during the Dongguan Municipal Awards Ceremony.
