Christmas bonus on SPAR Switzerland’s handball app

December 18, 2018 IN THE CATEGORY: Community, Responsible retailing, Sport sponsorship

For several years, SPAR Switzerland and the Swiss Handball Association have worked in close partnership. SPAR is not only the main and title sponsor of the SPAR Premium League SPL, but also the official presenter of the women's national team and women’s junior national team.

The SPAR partnership brings together over 200 licensed clubs that in December will benefit from a bonus which doubles the income for the handball clubs generated when customers purchase their groceries using the SPAR handball app. In the spirit of Christmas, SPAR Switzerland will donate 5% of all purchases made through the app to the youth fund of the respective club – double the regular donation of 2.5%. By using this simple system, every SPAR customer can actively sponsor young handball players without impacting their own disposable income.

The SPAR handball app offers even more options to SPAR customers who can get more information about all matches, follow the top matches via livestreams, find directions to the nearest SPAR store and every month customers using the app can win SPAR shopping vouchers.

The SPAR Switzerland handball app is easy to use: customers can download the app for iOS or Android smartphones for free, select their favourite club from 230 handball clubs and show the corresponding barcode in the app at the checkout.

About SPAR Switzerland

SPAR Switzerland, originally an independent family-owned company with a local shareholder structure, was founded in 1989, when it was granted the licence by SPAR International to operate the brand.

In 2000, the family-owned business was transformed into a holding company with three operating companies: SPAR Handels AG, TopCC AG and SPAR Management AG. This move helped to give the company a modern, future-oriented structure. The business has recorded steady growth over the years, combining corporate and independently owned stores, spanning forecourt retailing to large supermarkets.

In early 2016, SPAR Switzerland announced the sale of 60% of shares to SPAR Group Limited, South Africa. The existing management team and shareholders remain in the business.
