The weather didn’t keep the spectators away either; with an expected crowd based on pre-event ticket sales of 8,000 the athletes’ were cheered on all the way! Over the years, this competition has been changed to encourage the younger up and coming stars in each of the 51 member federations the opportunity to compete at the highest level. With a record number of 616 athletes from 36 countries participating in the seven races, there was a lot to enjoy and some serious competition for the coveted title of European Champion.
The medal table tells a great story about the rise of athletes throughout Europe, ranging from the Under 20’s all the way through to the Seniors, there was some fantastic running and brilliant tactics applied.
Media interest was again high, following the strong coverage of athletics during the course of this year, bringing the buzz and activity live to avid fans at home both on television and through the live streaming platform. Social media was a major contributor to the availability of information for everyone interested in the sport.
