John started his career at Henderson Retail as a customer advisor. Ten years later as a SPAR store manager, he remains driven by both customer and employee needs and how he can best meet them. Having worked in various roles within the organisation, John has gained a multi-facetted understanding of the grocery business. This has been particularly beneficial as the retail environment has changed and technology has advanced, shaping how people interact and make transactions on a daily basis.
John has also been instrumental in integrating technology with consumer preferences. He played a key role in implementing a new cashless system in store operations.
His commitment to people extends beyond his team members to the larger store community. Last year, he sponsored three schools, providing them with kits that included healthy food and drinks. He also supported community initiatives such as a local river clean-up and a fundraiser for children affected by cancer.
FMI held an online award ceremony on 16 May, announcing winners in all categories. Every year, FMI members nominate top store manager talent from their stores as part of our Store Manager Award programme.
FMI awards are given to outstanding managers who generate sales growth, effectively communicate company and store goals and objectives, demonstrate team leadership in their store/company, provide exceptional customer service through instore programmes, and improve community relations.
