SPAR UK Partner, Blakemore Retail, continues to focus on responsible retailing, raising more than £3 million for a national children’s charity and receiving a top foodservice operator’s award.

Outstanding support for national charity

Blakemore Retail has raised more than £3 million over a 10-year period to help the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) make a difference to 800,000 children’s lives.

The money raised by Blakemore Retail is currently used to support the NSPCC’s School Service, which visits primary schools across the country to deliver the charity’s ‘Speak Out Stay Safe’ programme.

‘Speak Out Stay Safe’ has been created by the NSPCC to teach children about abuse in an age-appropriate way, and to advise on what they should do if anything worries them.

Blakemore Retail employees have never been short of inventive ways to raise funds, with a team of staff distance-running between several of its SPAR stores, whilst others took on the challenge of climbing Mount Snowdon.

The SPAR Partner is delighted to have reached this monetary milestone and looks forward to coming up with more creative ways of raising funds for the charity in the future.

Top Delivered Wholesaler award

Blakemore has been crowned the Independent Foodservice Operator’s Favourite Delivered Wholesaler at the HIM Wholesale Awards 2018.

The awards are calculated using the results of HIM’s Wholesale Tracking research, which involves the organisation speaking to 6,000 retailers and foodservice operators to establish their opinion on and satisfaction with different wholesale providers.

The Independent Foodservice Operator’s Favourite Delivered Wholesaler award was judged on satisfaction ratings across 21 categories, including product quality, product range, availability, deliveries, pricing, value for money, ease of ordering, order accuracy and driver friendliness.

The annual awards event took place on 28 June. A total of 14 awards were presented to recognise champions across the wholesale sector.
