SPAR Spain expands presence with store openings and renovations

SPAR Spain has increased its presence with a string of new store openings and renovations during the last quarter of 2019 by Spanish SPAR partners Líder Aliment, Fragadis, Grupo Upper, and Agrucan. The new stores are key to strengthening SPAR’s position in the Spanish market, adding roughly 3,600m² of retail space in different regions across the country.

Líder Aliment has opened two new franchised SPAR stores and reopened a SPAR store as well as a EUROSPAR Supermarket. The new SPAR store in Badajoz features 200m² of sales surface and is run by five employees, while the new store in Zarza de Granadilla, Cáceres, features a sales surface of 380m². Badajoz also saw the reopening of a 280m² store at Jerez de los Caballeros run by four employees, as well as a 1,175m² EUROSPAR Supermarket at Castuera, with a staff of 26 employees. The supermarket offers a wide assortment of 6,100 products. The three SPAR stores offer between 3,300 and 4,200 different products, presenting complete self-service departments in fruit & vegetables, bakery, frozen, meat, and deli.

Fragadis has opened four new SPAR stores. The first store, an 800m² SPAR Supermarket in Huesca, Aragón, counts ten employees; the second, a EUROSPAR of over 1,000m² located at Linoya, Lérida, is run by 15 colleagues. Just before Christmas, a 650m² SPAR Supermarket in the centre of Tarragona and a 660 m² store in the Carolinas Altas neighbourhood of Alicante opened their doors to customers. Both stores present attractive assortments of well-known leading and SPAR brands. They also feature local and fresh products, bread and pastries, a greengrocer’s, a butcher’s, and deli sections. The stores are run by ten employees, respectively, and each employee is familiar with local tastes and preferences, benefitting customer service. All four facilities have incorporated energy-efficient cooling systems and LED technology. The three larger stores have also installed state-of-the-art screens at key points instore, providing customers with store updates and practical advice, such as recipes. To celebrate the store openings, Fragadis offered the first visitors tastings, paella and gifts, as well as activities such as face painting for young visitors.

Grupo Upper has reopened a SPAR store and opened a new SPAR Express in the Province of Murcia. After several months of renovations, the group reopened a completely renewed 900m² SPAR store in Caravaca de la Cruz. The renovation will allow the store’s 29 employees to offer customers a more complete shopping experience. In addition to the customary sections, a new “Cook for you” department now offers convenient ready meals. The new SPAR Express is Grupo Upper’s second store in El Esparragal. Serviced by four employees, the store covers 200m² and is open seven days a week. The stores maintain regular opening hours from 9 am until 9 pm from Monday till Saturday, and from 9 am to 12 pm on Sundays. Customers can find all they need for their daily shopping with high-quality products in the deli, meat, fruit, bread, frozen sections, as well as general food and beverages.

Agrucan has opened a new SPAR store in Aleje, Tenerife. With a sales surface of 200m², the new SPAR Supermarket offers its products in self-service format and is staffed by seven employees. It is opened seven days a week, from 8:30 am to 9:30 pm.
