SPAR Spain continued expansion and modernisation in fourth quarter

Support for local communities continued with investment in new stores and refurbishment by SPAR Spain partners. Home delivery services have been included wherever possible. SPAR Own Brand product ranges complement the full range of groceries available in stores. High standards of customer service is a focus of the store teams who are also informed about local products and specialties. Integration of eco-friendly refrigeration, reusable materials and the adoption of LED technology considerably improves the stores’ retail sustainability.

The quarter began strongly

A 410m² neighbourhood SPAR Supermarket in Callosa d’en Sarrià, Alicante, operated by a team of nine colleagues, was opened by Fragadis. The store offers a wide assortment, fresh self-service departments of F&V and bakery, plus served butchery, delicatessen, and fish counters. The store is open from Monday to Saturday from 8:30 to 21:30.

The 350 m² SPAR Supermarket in the Sant Gervasi-Galvany neighbourhood of Barcelona was opened by Valvi.  The store which is run by a team of seven stands out for its special wine and spirts section plus the specialized “Vinoteca VNTC Valvi” winery.

Líder Aliment opened four independently run SPAR stores during the month. They offer self-service bakery, frozen, butchery and charcuterie, offering a range of between 2,400 and 4,000 products.  Seville welcomed two SPAR Supermarkets – a 200m² store operated by six employees is open seven days a week from 9 till 9. The second is a 391m² store with a team of seven, which is open from Monday to Saturday. In Huelva, a 430m² store which is operated by seven colleagues, services the neighbourhood. In Badajoz, a 289m² store sees six members of staff ensuring local customers benefit from the instore offer daily.

SPAR Gran Canaria opened its 53rd SPAR store in the city, a 150m²  SPAR convenience store helping shoppers daily in Tenoya. 10 employees provide service to customers enjoying a wide assortment of fresh local meats and an instore bakery.

 November continued the brand expansion

Fragadis reopened two stores, an 850m² SPAR Supermarket at Caple meeting the neighbourhood’s needs. Investment into larger supermarket retailing saw the opening of  an attractive 1,600m²  EUROSPAR Supermarket in Alicante with a 46-space car park. A team of 17 help customers at served counters offering traditional meat cuts, delicatessen, and fish. Customers can also select from the self-serve fruit and vegetable section, dry groceries, organic and gluten-free ranges. The shopping experience is enhanced by the latest technologies such as the installation of thematic and information screens at strategic points in the store.

 SPAR Gran Canaria reopened two stores that underwent swift and comprehensive renovations, both operating seven days a week. New is the inclusion of a freshly squeezed orange juice service located next to the renovated Fruits and Vegetables areas. SPAR Salinetas reopened its doors with larger and brighter spaces providing a more comfortable, and pleasant shopping experience. In its 250m² the SPAR store has zones dedicated to the sale of fresh and local produce from the Canary Islands. The store is operated by 17 staff members and adds new services and sales areas to its customers. Energy efficiency has been taken into account through the installation of state-of-the-art vertical refrigerators.  The second store to be refurbished was SPAR Zoco Negro, in Arinaga, after ten years in operation. In its 200m² of sales surface, this SPAR supermarket offers an expanded delicatessen, bakery, fresh produce, and assortment of dry groceries. The original team of 13 members offer great service at food counters including producing daily a wide assortment of breads, fresh pastries, and baked goods.

The growing trend of proximity retailing has seen SPAR Spain partner, Grupo Upper opening a new 200m² SPAR Express store in Murcia. Customers enjoy the seven day opening which the team of five persons manages. The store’s free home delivery for purchases above 30 euros has contributed to it being a favourite amongst shoppers.

Líder Aliment opened a new EUROSPAR Supermarket in Badajoz. The supermarket has a sales area of 1,118m² in which it makes available approximately 7,000 products.  The team of 30 employees manage the 24/7 opening hours from Monday 09:00 hours to Saturday 21:30 hours.

Agrucan S.L. opened a new SPAR in the town of Los Cristianos, close to a very popular beach on the island of Tenerife. The 200m² store is located in a popular seaside resort where many foreign residents live. A staff of seven employees offer the best possible service and customers enjoy that they can shop seven days a week. The store offers a wide range of 3,500 products, comprising both SPAR Own Brand and national brands, complemented by the fresh offer.
