Investing in the development of its employees has been a key success factor for SPAR Qatar and to continue motivating the teams instore, a monthly recognition award has been introduced.

To earn the title of SPAR Star, a team member has to have shown exceptional dedication towards their work, be it through outstanding customer service, going the extra mile to get the job done or being a key team player.

Each month, the store manager reviews nominations which have been received and in a small ceremony, awards the elected SPAR Stars with a certificate and badge. A photograph of the ceremony is taken and shared internally, promoting team spirit.

The concept was developed by the store manager of SPAR Tawar Mall who said: “When we at SPAR show our teams their work is valued, their satisfaction and productivity rise and they are motivated to maintain or improve their good work. Praise and recognition are essential to an outstanding workplace. People want to be respected and valued by others for their contribution. Recognising good work is what drives the business forward.”

The idea was welcomed by SPAR Qatar’s senior management team and CEO, leading to its adoption initially in SPAR Tawar Mall before being rolled out to the remaining stores. Since launching the SPAR Star concept in March, 50 team members have been recognised.

The SPAR Star wall in each store is becoming a wall of fame, showcasing the pictures of recognised colleagues. The area is a talking point for staff, suppliers and visitors – helping to grow pride in the brand. See some of the great quotes from winners in the photo section above.
