SPAR has become globally synonymous with European Athletics, as principal sponsor since 1996. With Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka, the brand’s first sponsorship of a global cycling team, SPAR further demonstrates its long-term commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle; encouraging customers to combine exercise with healthy nutritional choices.
As part of the one-year sponsorship, SPAR branding will appear on the cyclists’ jerseys as they line up alongside the best cycling teams in the world to compete in the largest events on the planet, many of which are broadcast live across the globe throughout the year.
Commenting on the one-year partnership, Tobias Wasmuht, Managing Director SPAR International said: “SPAR is proud to be a sponsor of Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka for 2018. At SPAR, we are committed to taking an active role in promoting health and wellness in the communities we serve. This sponsorship of a first-class global cycling team, dedicated to fitness and community, embodies the SPAR brand.”
Doug Ryder, Team Principal of Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka, speaking on the most recent sponsorship said: “It is great to bring in a partner like SPAR from a different industry into Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka. SPAR has a wonderful culture that cares about its customers and the communities where they operate. That resonates deeply with our team. We look forward to making an impact together and showcase SPAR’s commitment to encouraging an active, healthy lifestyle this year locally in South Africa and around the world.
Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka was founded in South Africa in 2007 and has grown rapidly in the interim, succeeding in becoming the first-ever African UCI-registered professional continental team in 2012. The team has grown from strength to strength since then, recording its first Tour de France win in 2015. The cyclists include well-known names in the field, such as Mark Cavendish, Steve Cummings and Edvald Boasson Hagen, as well as rising African talents like Nic Dlamini. The team’s ambition to promote the sport of cycling in all countries where they compete, and support community initiatives through Qhubeka Charity to increase the ownership of bicycles, is evident in all of the team’s activities.
