In the past few months, the excellence of several SPAR Hungary stores and products has led to the company receiving prestigious industry awards. SPAR Hungary has won this year’s Trade Magazine’s ‘StarStore – Retailer of the Year' competition and was awarded for its innovative own brand products, domestic and health-conscious products, and sustainability initiatives.

Four awards at Trade Magazine’s StarStore competition

At Trade Magazine’s ‘StarStore 2022 – Retailer of the Year’ competition, SPAR Hungary received the awards ‘Supermarket Chain of the Year 202’ and ‘Popular Retail Chain of the Year 2022’ and also became ‘Retailer of the Year 2022’ in Hungary. A highlight was the INTERSPAR Hypermarket in Kaposvár, opened last year with a total investment of over €27 million, winning the title ‘Hypermarket of the Year’.

Promoting domestic and health-conscious products

Based on manufacturers’ votes, SPAR Hungary came second in this year’s Trade Competition for Hungarian Products. The award was created by Magyar Termék Nonprofit Kft., a non-profit organisation identifying and trademarking domestic products, together with Trade Magazine. The award was presented to SPAR Hungary at the Business Days event, held from 19 to 23 September in Tapolca.

In this annual competition, companies are awarded for supporting domestic products. SPAR Hungary won this award in 2021 and 2018, and came second in 2019. In 2020, the company received a special prize for promoting Hungarian products.

SPAR Hungary’s healthy lifestyle product development was rewarded with this year’s ‘Just Clear Fitness Lifestyle Award’. The retailer received the award ‘Health-Conscious Retailer of the Year 2022’.

Awarded sustainability programmes

SPAR Hungary also received several prestigious awards in the area of sustainability. In this year’s ‘Effekt 2030 – Community Investment’ competition, the ‘SPAR for Society’, ‘Hungaricool by SPAR’ and ‘Treasures of the Regions’ initiatives were awarded shared first place in the Future Economy category.

The awards were developed by Effekteam, a non-profit sustainability-oriented organisation, to recognise exemplary and effective environmental and social investment programmes of Hungarian companies.

Trade Magazine’s ‘Symbol of Sustainability’ competition highlights programmes helping to achieve a more sustainable future. This year, in addition to SPAR Hungary’s ‘Ökokaland’ animated stories raising environmental awareness for children, the expert panel recognised the company’s expanding range of environmentally-conscious products and services.
