Ahead of the busy summer period, SPAR Hungary has extended the opening hours of 13 stores around the popular tourist destination Lake Balaton. It has also expanded its SPAR Drive-In service to include several busy resort stores.

“As well as offering a wide range of quality products, SPAR Hungary wants to satisfy both seasonal visitors and local demands”, said Márk Maczelka, Head of Communications at SPAR Hungary.

During the busy summer months, the company is offering extended opening hours at stores around Lake Balaton, the most visited spot in the country.

SPAR Hungary’s online shop and drive-in service are already available to nearly 2.3 million users from Monday to Saturday. There are several two-hour time slots to choose from. Groceries can be paid for using a credit card online or at the point of collection.

Customers can pick up the online orders at designated parking spaces marked with the sign ‘Accept Online Shopping’. They can check-in using the intercom, and the instore team will then deliver the order to the customer’s car.

Webshop customers can find the newly added pick-up locations in the drop-down menu by selecting the ‘Store Pickup’ option. The webshop is available on most digital devices, including smartphones, tablets, and desktops.

Since the launch of its e-grocery platform in 2019, SPAR Hungary has continued to expand the e-commerce team and catchment areas in response to growing shopper demand.

About SPAR Hungary

The first SPAR Supermarket opened in Hungary in 1992, following the acquisition by ASPIAG (Austria SPAR International AG) of a majority stake in General Kereskedelmi Rt. Since its launch, SPAR Hungary has been actively involved in developing the country’s retail industry.

The move to license independent retailers to operate the SPAR Brand has proven successful for Hungary. New stores meet the needs of many shoppers. In addition, the retailers benefit from becoming part of the SPAR organisation with access to their own brand products and other resources. At the same time, consumers enjoy the increased number of store locations. SPAR Hungary is one of the country’s largest employers, with 17,881 team members.
