SPAR Hungary in December collected over 188 tonnes of food as part of its 25th Joy to Give donation campaign. Organised with the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service, the campaign resulted in the delivery of over 26,000 gift packages to people in need.

For the first time, the joint charity campaign kicked off on 1 December instead of mid-December. Donation cards were available for purchase from this date in 137 SPAR stores nationwide as well as the SPAR online shop. Customers contributed more than 12 million HUF (nearly €34,000) through the purchase of these donation cards. Those interested could track donations daily through a virtual calendar.

Tens of thousands of SPAR customers also handed in food donations to Maltese Charity Service volunteers at SPAR and INTERSPAR stores throughout the country.

“Families in need, elderly people living alone in difficult circumstances, parents raising disabled children, and homeless people received the gift bags prepared by the charity service right in time before Christmas. We are happy that SPAR customers have supported this campaign over the last 25 years”, said Tamás Romhányi, Head of Communications at the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service.

SPAR Hungary noted it is delighted that even during an ongoing pandemic, they could organise their 25th annual food donation charity campaign with the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service.
