Firmly aligned with its corporate social responsibility policy, SPAR Gran Canaria continues to collaborate with initiatives and projects that benefit the well-being of the local communities it serves.

Scholarship for Gran Canarias youth talent

This year, SPAR Gran Canaria has launched the third edition of its SPAR Youth Talent Scholarship, which awards up to €3,000 to talented youngsters between the ages of 9 and 16 in need of financial assistance. The scholarship provides support for their studies and opportunities in sports practice.

In previous editions, a young violinist received the scholarship, which covered his musical training and the materials necessary for his studies. The aid was also granted to a young chess player to cover participation costs of the Individual World Chess Championship in Greece in 2018.

Support to Museo Canario’s cultural family visits programme

SPAR Gran Canaria and the Canary Museum have renewed their collaboration agreement to carry out the ‘Family Visit’ educational scheme for the third consecutive year. The programme reinforces the museum’s role in the education of children and highlights the importance of families in linking and rooting children in these cultural institutions.

The activities are normally offered every first Sunday of the month, giving families a space to share, learn and have fun together. They include workshop visits, dynamic tours, and archaeology workshops. The new agreement covers 3D and augmented reality resources to create an immersive experience, as well as the promotion of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

Sale of charity calendar proceeds donated to Down Syndrome Association

SPAR Gran Canaria has collaborated with the Las Palmas Down Syndrome Association through the sale of the association’s yearly solidarity calendar. The sale of the calendars will go to the development of the association’s activities and projects for the hundred associated families it assists in the province of Las Palmas.

For the calendar, the association’s members acted as models as well as photographers, portraying scenes from their daily lives, such as a walk in the park, an afternoon with friends or surfing practice.

About SPAR Spain

SPAR Spain was founded in 1959 when several wholesalers who wished to join an international organisation came together. As a result, the brand became the first voluntary trading chain to be established in Spain.

The head office is in Barcelona. It provides buying, marketing, communications, and brand support to the 13 regional partners. Together, the SPAR operators actively continue the expansion of the brand across the country.
