SPAR Gran Canaria portrays continued solidarity with communities

The Spanish SPAR Partner in Gran Canaria continues to actively support local communities, charities, and hospitals in need.

With the current economic impact felt by the whole community, SPAR Gran Canarias recently took the opportunity to thank their teams in distribution, stores, offices, and transport for all their efforts. By being better together, SPAR team members have become closer than ever to their customers and people in need.

During the first quarter of this year, SPAR Gran Canaria donated 90,000 kilograms of essential foods, tripling last year’s support. SPAR Gran Canaria normally make fixed food donations to the Food Bank, Red Cross and other charities but in response to the pandemic, in these first months of 2020 the number has increased a lot, and all of these donations go to vulnerable families motivated by this situation of health and economic crisis.

Most recently, community donations of essential foods were given to Ingenio, Santa Lucia de Tirajana and to two local hospitals.

Earlier this month, SPAR Gran Canaria recognised the exemplary behaviour of Canarias society and the people working in the food sector, paying a special tribute to the island’s community.

Outside every store, team members initiated a two-minute round of applause as a symbolic thank-you to the population. Customers who at that time were doing their shopping at the stores were invited to join this tribute.

SPAR Gran Canaria also directed its thanks to all those people and workers closely related to the food, logistics, and food production sector. In this exceptional period, these team members have made special efforts to ensure that the chain supply has functioned with total normalcy, supplying all stores and Gran Canarias homes.

SPAR Gran Canaria is present in the 21 municipalities of the island with 189 stores, offering the best local fresh produce with a quality-price ratio that makes it the leader in the sale of fresh fruits and vegetables.
