SPAR Croatia is promoting healthier consumer habits through the ongoing reduction of excessive sugar levels in its own brand ranges. In line with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), the organisation has launched a groundbreaking initiative aimed at reducing the negative impact of excessive sugar consumption in diets.

Strategic collaboration

The initiative’s momentum has been exponentially accelerated by the strategic collaboration with Vindija, a leading domestic producer. This partnership kicks off a call to producers in the Croatian market to join hands for the greater good of the community.

SPAR Croatia has benefited from the learnings of a sugar reduction initiative led by SPAR in Austria. To date, over 50 companies in that market are supporting that scientifically backed programme.

Own Brand reformulation

Croatian consumers will reap the benefits of this initiative with a growing range of sugar-reduced products already available on the shelf. SPAR Croatia’s commitment is evident with sugar reduction in prominent brands such as SPAR, S-Budget, SPAR Natur*pur, and SPAR Vital. 160 products have already undergone successful recipe alterations, resulting in sugar reductions of up to 80% without compromising on taste, and notably without resorting to artificial sugar substitutes.

Helmut Fenzl, President of the SPAR Croatia Management Board, remarked, “At SPAR Croatia, we continually fine-tune our own brand product recipes. This has led to a substantial reduction in sugar across 36 products sourced from Croatian producers. We are delighted to see Vindija join forces with us, further propelling this initiative towards the betterment of our valued consumers.”
