SPAR Brand attracts growing number of independent retailers in Austria

A growing number of local entrepreneurs are joining SPAR in Austria as independent retailers, combining their skills and expertise with a trusted and well-established brand. September saw the opening of two SPAR Supermarkets run by local entrepreneurs, both trained butchers, with a keen eye for quality and value.

SPAR Helpfau-Uttendorf

Andreas Zauner has been part of the SPAR family for over twenty years. The trained butcher began his professional career at SPAR in 2001 as a delicatessen department manager in Mauerkirchen. A few years and career steps later, Andreas Zauner now runs a SPAR Supermarket in Helpfau-Uttendorf.

The community of Helpfau-Uttendorf has had a SPAR Supermarket since 2000. Initially run as a SPAR company-owned store, the location was taken over and continued by local businessman Josef Veronesi seven years later. Following Mr Veronesi’s retirement, Andreas Zauner fulfilled his dream of becoming an independent retailer at SPAR by taking over the location in July 2020.

Together with SPAR Austria, Andreas Zauner modernized the location. On 9 September, the Zauner family opened their newly built SPAR Supermarket in Helpfau-Uttendorf.

“With the new building, we were able to increase the sales area by around 40 percent. The expansion gives us more space for international specialities and regional delicacies. And as a trained butcher, I value quality delicacies,” says Andreas Zauner.

SPAR Eferding

Robert Groiß, also a trained butcher, has become an independent retailer at a SPAR Supermarket in Eferding. He has taken over the store from Wolfgang Boldog, who is now retired. On a sales area of around 700m², a great range of fresh products, as well as regional and international specialities, are on offer.

SPAR Eferding, rebuilt in close collaboration with SPAR Austria, is in the same location as before – close to the city centre of Eferding. During the renovation, the store has been rotated 90 degrees, making the facade more visible from the street. In addition, a new traffic solution for the driveway and 64 parking spaces ensure a pleasant shopping experience.

The renovation has increased the supermarket’s sales area by 100m² compared to the old store. Customers can now enjoy a more expansive product assortment and more fresh products in the delicatessen and fruit and vegetable departments.
