SPAR Austria supports children in need

As a major retailer with a wide presence across the country, SPAR is well embedded in local communities throughout Austria. Reflecting its community spirit, SPAR Austria has made a number of donations over the past year to charitable foundations benefitting children in need.

INTERSPAR Hypermarkets donate €115,000 to SOS Children’s Villages

INTERSPAR Hypermarkets has been a strong partner of SOS Children’s Villages in Austria for 16 years and supported the charity with over €1.4 million during this period. In 2019 alone, a total of €115,000 was donated. SOS Children’s Villages is a non-governmental organisation focused on supporting children without parental care and families at risk.

In 2019, part of the €115,000 donation went to the project “We are building the future”. In a SOS Children’s Village in Seekirchen, a modern and sustainable house was built for adolescents moving from SOS Children’s Village families to a shared apartment.

The donation also benefitted the SOS Children’s Village SOS donation challenge to mark the 70th anniversary of the social organisation, as well as the sponsorship of houses in SOS Children’s Villages throughout Austria.

Over the years, INTERSPAR Hypermarkets has also sought to support SOS Children’s Villages by raising awareness and encouraging INTERSPAR Hypemarket customers to donate.

SPAR donates €30.000 to charity Save a child

SPAR Austria’s 11th Stickermania campaign has again been a huge success. For every €10 spent on groceries, customers receive five free stickers at the POS. A sticker collection book can be purchased for €1.99 in SPAR stores nationwide. The new Stickermania app brought even more collecting fun for young and old and was even the number one in Austria’s app download charts.

Children in need benefit from the success of the campaign, because SPAR donated €30,000 to the charity Save a Child. In total, SPAR has donated €180,000 to Save a Child from the proceeds of the Stickermania campaigns over the course of 11 years.

Save a Child Austria looks after socially vulnerable children, supports children with disabilities, and supports families in need. In addition to public funds, private donations are also required to fulfil all of these tasks.

“The generous donation from SPAR Austria supports our regional organisations nationwide and enables us to give the children some fun in addition to basic childcare”, explains Karl Semlitsch, President of Sava a Child Austria.

“With the SPAR Stickermania campaign we want to help those children who are looked after by children’s charity Save a child in difficult situations. The experience of many years of cooperation confirms that this donation is being used sensibly”, emphasises Gerhard Fritsch, SPAR Austria’s Marketing Manager.
