SPAR had a larger stand this year compared to previous years, with a display showing the different stages of traditional cultivation from the planting of seeds to the harvesting of products. The display included descriptive panels explaining the agricultural life cycle to children and adults.
SPAR Gran Canaria also showcased various fresh products of the highest quality that make up the range La Cosecha Canaria de SPAR. One of the fundamental pillars of SPAR’s business and sales philosophy is to support local producers and farmers. The SPAR Gran Canaria stores offer locally sourced fresh products such as potatoes, cucumbers, courgettes, papayas, lettuce, endives, tomatoes, strawberries, carrots and peppers.
SPAR Gran Canaria works together with more than 110 farmers on the island, who harvest their products from more than 400 plots located in different municipalities. The SPAR Partner also sources other local Canarian produce of excellent quality such as: avocados, onions and sweet potatoes from La Palma, tropical pineapple from El Hierro, and exotic fruits from Tenerife.
Along with its onsite stand, SPAR Gran Canaria held workshops for children on fruit art and organised cooking shows by renowned local chefs who made dishes using local produce.
