SPAR Spain Partners had a busy end to 2017 with a series of store openings in different regions varying from large SPAR Supermarkets to smaller SPAR neighbourhood stores.

Líder Aliment & Grupo Upper

Líder Aliment, the SPAR Partner for the provinces of Seville, Badajoz, Córdoba, Cádiz, Cáceres and Huelva, opened a new SPAR Supermarket in the town of Navalmoral de la Mata in Cáceres, a special location along the highway connecting Madrid with Lisbon. The new SPAR has a sales area of 1,100m² offering customers around 5,700 products, both SPAR Own Brand and leading A-brands. The store is open Monday to Saturday, from 9:00 – 21:30 and has 33 part-time and two full time employees. The new SPAR has self-service departments, fresh fruits and vegetables, a bakery, butchery and Food-to-Go section.

Grupo Upper, the SPAR Wholesaler for Almería, Granada, Murcia, Albacete and Alicante, has opened a new SPAR store in Albacete. The store is open Monday to Saturday from 9:00 – 21:30. It has a sales surface of 600m² and employs 13 members of staff. Customers can find a wide range of high quality products in the different departments: Bakery, Delicatessen, Fish, Fruit & Veg and Butchery.

La Palma, Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Girona

SPAR wholesalers, Tomás and José Barreto, have opened a new SPAR on a highway location in the municipality of Fuentecaliente on the island of La Palma. This store of 270m² is open from Monday to Sunday and has access to a 150m² back storage. It also has parking spaces available for all customers.

The new SPAR store makes use of energy-saving technologies, helping to reduce its footprint, reinforcing SPAR’s commitment to the island’s environment. The store is equipped with 100% LED lighting an incorporates solar panels on the roof. It also makes use of highly efficient cooling equipment. In addition, it has a charging point for electric vehicles (unique in the municipality) and an innovative water purification point.

The staff of the new SPAR are all locals with a good understanding of the local produce. The father and son team are experienced SPAR retailers who have been recognised for their commitment to the promotion of quality SPAR Own Brands. SPAR Gran Canaria opened a new 300m² SPAR Store last December. The new SPAR has 10 employees and has been developed with an innovative design that incorporates the most efficient energy saving technologies, with state-of-the-art refrigeration and lighting systems.

The store has a large fruit and vegetable section and customers can count on a daily assortment of fresh produce that has been locally sourced under the name La Cosecha Canaria de SPAR (SPAR Gran Canaria’s Catch).

A novel addition to this newest SPAR Gran Canaria Supermarket is the inclusion of a small cafeteria, which offers top-quality coffee and a wide assortment of breads and sweets. There is also a spacious Food-to-Go and butchery section.

SPAR Gran Canaria is a highly successful SPAR Partner, recognised for its commitment to innovation and quality. With this new store, SPAR Gran Canaria now has 178 SPAR Supermarkets spread across the island.

Last December, Agrucan S.L. opened a new SPAR store in the Mar Bella Shopping Centre, in Costa Adeje. This new SPAR Supermarket is open every day from 8:30 – 21:30. As a bonus, customers are rewarded 1 hour of free parking.

The 200m² SPAR store is efficiently equipped with the latest generation cooling technologies, offering maximum efficiency. The staff  is composed of seven employees and has self-service sections of fruits and vegetables and instore baked pastries and ready-made meals. There is also a wine cellar with more than 1,300 references. The store offers customers a wide range of international products in all categories.

VALVI Supermercados has opened a new store in the town of Sant Gregori in Girona. It is 246m² in size and has four employees. In this new SPAR store, self-service sections of prepacked meats, a bakery and fruit & veg section are available, along with a wine section with an outstanding selection.

This new SPAR store is the 39th to be opened by VALVI Supermercados in Girona. VALVI targets their SPAR store model at families, covering the daily or weekly purchase offering with a wide range of items in different formats.

Valvi Supermercados is a company with 100% Girona family capital and is the first network of independent supermarkets in the province of Girona. Grupo Miquel is Valvi’s exclusive supplier.
