New SPAR Italy video celebrates the brand’s strong values and choices

A new video launched by SPAR Italy shows the values and choices that drive the brand’s success, taking the viewer on a journey along its recent developments and tradition. It is also a tribute to the commitment of DESPAR’s people, who have chosen to be there for their local communities in these times of unprecedented challenges. It shows the strong bonds between SPAR stores and their local communities.

The SPAR Brand video was shared on national television, airing over the course a week (20-26 September) on Mediaset channels. This investment follows the ‘Italy in our heart’ campaign that aired last May on major Italian TV broadcasters, where DESPAR paid tribute to the extraordinary work of all SPAR employees in the first months of this challenging 2020.

SPAR International first granted a licence for the operation of the SPAR Brand to SPAR Italy in 1959. The first store opened in the latter part of 1960 and with it, SPAR became the first partnership of retailers and wholesalers to operate in Italy. SPAR Italy, known locally as DESPAR Italia, licenses regional partners, all of whom work together to grow the brand across the country.

The DESPAR Partners operate stores under three formats: DESPAR neighbourhood Supermarkets, EUROSPAR Supermarkets and INTERSPAR Hypermarkets. Many of the larger format stores are company-owned, reflecting the scale of investment required. While the majority of the company’s turnover is acquired through these larger format stores, the independently owned neighbourhood supermarkets remain a key part of the business.
