Investment in continued expansion by SPAR Spain

SPAR Spain continues to highlight investment by its partners through entering new locations as well as the modernisation of existing stores. These recent openings grew the brand’s footprint by 2,000sqm.

New SPAR Express and SPAR Supermarkets

Ignacio de las Cuevas, the SPAR partner operating in the northern provinces of La Coruña, Lugo, Orense and Pontevedra, opened two new SPAR Express stores, bringing the total number of SPAR stores owned by this partner to 43. Local residents welcomed the opening of the first SPAR Express in the municipality of Villanueva del Campo, Zamora. Covering ​​130m², customers can choose from 1,500 SPAR Own Brand and leading brand products, complemented by the butchery, fish counter, delicatessen and fresh produce department.

Grupo Upper, present in Almería, Granada, Murcia, Albacete and Alicante, opened a series of SPAR Express stores. The store in highly populated Cartagena has a retail area of 250m2, offering customers a wide range of products across its fresh and ambient food departments, its beauty department and wine section. Despite challenges caused by the coronavirus outbreak, SPAR Sureste further expanded in Murcia, opening stores in two cities, Playa Honda and La Puebla. The home delivery service is popular, supporting local residents who are self-isolating at this time.

Fragadis, SPAR partner in Tarragona, Lérida, Barcelona, ​​Valencia, Castellón, Alicante and Aragón, opened a new SPAR Supermarket in Lérida. Maintaining the iconic architecture of the former cooperative’s building, the 500m² store has a modern interior, incorporating energy saving refrigeration equipment and sustainable LED technology.

Agrucan S.L. opened a new 298m² SPAR Supermarket in San Sebastián de la Gomera. The store offers assisted customer service counters in its delicatessen, butchery and bakery, and is open on Sundays, providing further convenience for customers.

Investing in modernisation of stores

SPAR Gran Canaria reopened the El Pilar SPAR Supermarket, a 298m² state-of-the-art store, marking 20 years of service. Using low-power LED lighting and the latest-generation of closed vertical refrigerating units, the store is now more environmentally friendly and has added a butchery, bakery, delicatessen and innovative cafeteria to its offering.

Líder Aliment, SPAR Spain´s partner in the south western provinces of Seville, Badajoz, Córdoba, Cádiz, Cáceres and Huelva, reopened its EUROSPAR Supermarket in La Zafra, Badajoz. With a retail sales area of 1,384m², the store boasts a 6,500 product range, including a fresh offering across its bakery, butchery and delicatessen.
