SPAR Hungary launches 24th Joy to Give campaign
In the run-up to Christmas, SPAR Hungary and the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service ran their 24th Joy to Give campaign. This year, customers were invited to buy donation cards to support people in need, instead of donating food products instore. Using these donation cards, the Maltese Charity Service bought and delivered food packages to people in need right in time for Christmas.
Make a wish: SPAR Switzerland’s Christmas donation campaign
SPAR Switzerland has invited its customers to fill out wish cards instore or submit a wish online in support of local charities or individuals. SPAR then selected and granted a host of wishes, thereby donating nearly €70,000 to support those in need.
SPAR Italy Partner Maiora donates more than 3,000 food sacks
SPAR Italy Partner Maiora (locally known as DESPAR Centro-Sud) is donating more than 3,000 food sacks to the less fortunate members of its local communities. The ‘bags of solidarity’ replace Maiora’s traditional Solidarity Dinners this year, which attracted more than 4,000 people on average in previous years.
The jute sacks full of long-life DESPAR-branded food products have been handed to local Caritas centres in the municipalities where DESPAR Maiora operates its retail stores. The local charity centres will distribute these among vulnerable households.
SPAR South Africa makes wishes come true
SPAR customers in South Africa could text a wish to their favourite store until 1 December. SPAR then selected 10,000 wishes to be fulfilled ahead of Christmas. Customers also have the chance of winning free Christmas shopping in their favourite SPAR store. SPAR South Africa offers a great selection of Christmas recipes, a Christmas Carol competition, and a festive online playlist to get into the Christmas spirit.
SPAR UK Christmas fundraising activities in support of Marie Curie
SPAR UK is a longstanding charity partner of Marie Curie. This December, SPAR UK colleagues joined a series of fundraising activities such as the Staff Christmas Raffle and the SPARDance2020 activity. These activities have raised enough funds to cover over 72 hours of care from Marie Curie nurses who give vital support to terminal patients at home and comfort their families.
SPAR Slovenia and Ana’s Star donate food to families in need
For the ninth year in a row, SPAR and charity partner Ana’s Star have joined hands to support families in need during the festive season. This year, food products worth €20,000 will be donated. The campaign runs from 1 to 31 December. This year, SPAR Slovenia is mainly collecting food with a longer shelf life as well as personal hygiene products.
As even more families and individuals need support this year, SPAR Slovenia is calling on customers to join the campaign ‘Let’s help together’. Customers can donate food products by placing these in Ana’s Star shopping carts located behind the cash registers in SPAR, INTERSPAR, and SPAR stores.
SPAR UK Partner runs Tearfund’s Seeds of Hope campaign
Henderson Group, SPAR Partner in Northern Ireland, is doubling instore and online donations for their Tearfund’s Seeds of Hope campaign. This initiative seeks to help 5,000 families in Uganda combat hunger resulting from crop failures. The priority lies in exploring new farming methods, providing weather-proof seeds, and planting trees. The 2020 campaign is communicated via instore shelf cards as well as a series of print and digital ads. Shoppers can donate via canisters in store until December 31.
SPAR Ireland supports Make-A-Wish Christmas Appeal with €205,000
In the run-up to Christmas, SPAR Ireland has presented a cheque for more than €205,000 to their official charity partner, Make-A-Wish. This donation will enable the charity to grant the wishes of sick children all over Ireland. SPAR contributes to the official charity partner through instore collection boxes and a donation from the sale of a selected range of SPAR Own Brand products. SPAR also supports the charity’s annual Wish Day and usually several fundraising initiatives.
SPAR UK brings Christmas sandwich cheer to Marie Curie
This festive season, SPAR UK is spreading Christmas cheer by donating sandwiches and treats to nurses and staff at several Marie Curie Hospices across the country. Deliveries of SPAR Turkey Feast Christmas sandwiches and treats to the hospices were made to thank staff for the care and support they have provided to end-of-life patients this year. In addition to the special delivery, SPAR is donating 10p from the sale of each of its Turkey Feast sandwich to Marie Curie.
