April 2, 2019 IN THE CATEGORY: Store openings

SPAR Slovenia recently opened its 102nd company-owned store in Bled in the north-west of the country. The 1,700sqm supermarket is located at the ring road Bled North and offers customers a modern and pleasant shopping environment, a high quality offering and friendly service. In addition to a focus on fresh and local products, the new SPAR Supermarket has been equipped with innovative energy-saving solutions.

The SPAR Supermarket was built in just eight months and the architecture of the building blends in beautifully with its natural background, the Slovenian Alps. The facade is made of glass and marble slabs, while the canopy of the store is made out of wood. The store provides parking space for 64 cars in the underground garage and 24 in front of the store. With the new store opening, some 32 new jobs have been created.

At the heart of the supermarket are the fresh departments with an extensive fruit and vegetable range. As SPAR Slovenia continues to support local sourcing, a special location has been created instore showcasing only local products from Slovenian farmers. At the entrance, customers can also find a broad choice of baked goods in the bread and pastry department, followed by the delicatessen department with exquisite specialties, as well as the fresh meat and fish departments. Another main feature of the store is the well-stocked SPAR-to-Go counter, meeting the needs of customers facing today’s fast paced way of life. There are numerous ready-made meals, sandwiches, salads and desserts to choose from. To speed up the checkout process, four express checkouts are available.

During development, there was a focus on implementing energy-saving solutions, such as LED lighting and transcritical CO2 cooling and heating systems. SPAR Slovenia has also highlighted its CSR campaign ‘Think Ecologically’, encouraging sustainable behaviour and reduced use of plastic bags. In addition to making customers aware of the importance of environmental protection, SPAR Slovenia also offers hands-on support, making a commitment to help clean the nearby Bled lake at the end of May. So far, the CSR campaign has helped to clean up five Slovenian rivers, tidying up more than two tonnes of waste.
