SPAR Scotland launches store awards programme to highlight community role

April 7, 2022 IN THE CATEGORY: Awards and prizes

To celebrate the incredible work stores have been doing throughout the year, SPAR Scotland is kicking off a new awards programme, spotlighting individual store achievements that have made a positive impact on communities. The winners will be announced at SPAR Scotland's 2022 tradeshow in Aviemore on 22 September.

There are four different categories, and judging will take place across independent and company-owned SPAR stores all over Scotland.

These four categories are:

  • Company-owned store of the year – sponsored by Hovis
  • Independent store of the year – sponsored by AG Barr
  • Company-owned community store of the year – sponsored by Graham’s The Family Dairy
  • Independent community store of the year – sponsored by Brewdog

SPAR stores will be judged across multiple areas over three months this summer. Each category sponsor has agreed on the award criteria and will help decide the winning stores.

Colin McLean, CEO of SPAR Scotland, said: “We know we have some great stores and great retailers. We want to use our new awards programme to showcase what they do. This will be all about finding and crowning the best of the best in SPAR around Scotland.”

The award winners will be announced at SPAR Scotland’s tradeshow, which is heralded as being one of the biggest retail events to take place in Scotland this year.

Highlighting excellence

These awards will cover excellence in store exterior and interior, product display, POS on display, cleanliness, staff/team engagement and interaction with our customers.

The Community Store of the Year category will specifically look at what a SPAR store and retailer has done within their local community to support local groups and charities, fundraising events, and how they work hand in hand with their community throughout the year.
