SPAR Ireland to introduce new compostable coffee cups

BWG Group, owners and operators of the SPAR Brand in Ireland, has teamed up with its exclusive premium coffee partners Insomnia, Bewley’s and Seattle’s Best Coffee to introduce 100% compostable and fully biodegradable coffee cups in all SPAR and EUROSPAR Supermarkets with immediate effect. It’s estimated that the move will prevent 19 million coffee cups going to landfill each year.

Created from raw materials and plant sources, the sustainable coffee cups are certified by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) Board, providing assurance to consumers that the cups have been sustainably sourced.

In addition to the new cups, BWG encourages other environmentally friendly initiatives such as reusable KeepCups and branded Bags for Life. The company also plans to introduce other sustainable packaging solutions in the near future, such as compostable food containers, cutlery and drinking straws.
