SPAR Denmark retailer opens new store in Svendborg

December 23, 2021 IN THE CATEGORY: Store openings

29-year-old retailer Jonas Tingholm Frimann has opened a new SPAR Supermarket in Svendborg on the island of Funen, Southern Denmark. Launched on 25 November, SPAR Mølmarksvej brings an expanded range of locally sourced products and delicatessen to the city.

The store is housed in a newly built residential building on Mølmarksvej road, where a different SPAR store was previously located. That SPAR store was run by retailer Arne Petersen, who runs another SPAR store in the city.

Arne decided to sell his SPAR store on Mølmarksvej to spend more time with his family, creating the ideal opportunity for Jonas to open his store. The new supermarket has a retail sales area of 700m2, double that of the previous store. The store is based on SPAR Denmark’s latest design concept, developed in 2019 in close collaboration with SPAR International.

With about 27,000 inhabitants, Svendborg is the second-largest city on the island and a popular tourist destination. SPAR Mølmarksvej’s customer base consists of young and old single households, families, and tourists.

The destination departments include delicatessen, fruit and vegetables, and a convenience department with a large selection of ready-made food products at competitive prices.

About SPAR Denmark

SPAR Denmark was founded in 1954 when Danish retail company, Dagrofa, was granted a licence to operate the brand in the market. In 2013, NorgesGruppen purchased 49% of the Dagrofa Group. This led to a major restructuring of the retail business, strengthening the SPAR Brand in Denmark.

SPAR Denmark has more than 130 supermarkets spread across the country, positioning itself as the largest independent retail chain in the market. Its headquarters are in Ringsted. Over the past years, SPAR Denmark has implemented a robust expansion plan to open new stores in the capital city and larger cities nationwide.
