New and renewed SPAR Supermarkets in Hungary

September 23, 2019 IN THE CATEGORY: Store openings

Store investment, in terms of both new openings and modernisations, continues to be a key focus for SPAR Hungary. Recent examples include the transformation of a supermarket in the town of Tatabanya, and the opening of a new store in Budapest.

The reopened SPAR store in Tatabanya features a new interior and exterior design, based on the current corporate concept. On entering the store, shoppers are led through the expanded fruit & veg department and the renewed bakery section to the refreshed delicatessen counter. Brand new equipment and furniture has been installed, helping to better showcase products and promotions. Environmentally friendly and energy-saving cooling and lighting technologies have also been introduced, contributing to a more sustainable operation overall. A team of 18 friendly and well-trained employees are ready to assist and serve shoppers of the new and improved Tatabanya supermarket.

In Budapest, the newly opened SPAR Supermarket at Duna Plaza shopping centre offers a spacious and pleasant shopping environment. The deli counter draws customers in with its attractive, transparent design – cleverly showcasing the delicious food on offer. The open-planned exhibition bakery is another crowd pleaser, as is the salad bar, offering fresh lunch and dinner options for the health conscious consumer. The supermarket also includes a SPAR to Go section, offering a large selection of sandwiches, salads, warm meals and desserts. In the modern store, reduced-consumption LED lighting and cooling systems ensure low energy usage, while shopping is made faster with the availability of self-checkout units. A team of 28 enthusiastic SPAR colleagues are in charge of running this latest SPAR Supermarket in Hungary’s capital city.

About SPAR Hungary

The first SPAR Supermarket opened in Hungary in 1992, following the acquisition by ASPIAG (Austria SPAR International AG) of a majority stake in General Kereskedelmi Rt. Since its launch, SPAR Hungary has been actively involved in the development of the retail industry in the country.

The move to license independent retailers to operate the SPAR Brand has proven successful for Hungary, with new stores meeting the needs of a larger number of shoppers. The retailers benefit from becoming part of the SPAR organisation with access to own brand products, operating systems and the brand, whilst consumers enjoy the increased number of store locations.
