SPAR Scotland’s flagship schoolgirls football tournament attracts record participation

The 2025 SPAR Future Stars Cup concluded in style on 3rd June at Broadwood Stadium, Cumbernauld, where Braidhurst High School claimed national titles in both the S1/S2 and S3/S4 categories.

Now in its fourth year, SPAR Scotland’s Future Stars initiative – delivered in partnership with the Scottish Football Association – continues to go from strength to strength. This year’s tournament saw a record-breaking 282 teams register, a 30% increase from 2024, with around 3,000 girls aged 12 to 16 competing in regional qualifying rounds across Scotland.

Record-Breaking Participation

Colin McLean, CEO of SPAR Scotland, said: “SPAR Future Stars continues to grow, and we are proud to see such strong momentum behind it. More than 3,000 girls from across Scotland took part – a remarkable milestone that shows the growing appetite for opportunities like this.

“We welcomed over 60 more teams than last year, with some schools registering within days of the 2024 finals. It’s clearly become a much-anticipated fixture in the school sports calendar.”

Grassroots Girls’ Football

The 2025 finals day brought together 420 players across 35 teams from both age groups for a vibrant celebration of grassroots girls’ football. Eight-a-side teams from across the country competed in front of enthusiastic supporters and guests.

Shirley Martin, Head of Girls & Women’s Football at the Scottish FA, added: “SPAR Future Stars offers a fun and friendly platform for girls to play with their friends while representing their schools. Initiatives like this are vital in nurturing a lifelong love of sport.”

The final results for 2025 in the S1/S1 category celebrated the winner which was Braidhurst High School and the runner up was Firhill High School. In the S3/S4 Category, the winner was Braidhurst High School and the runner up was St Columba’s High School.

Registration is now open for the 2026 SPAR Future Stars Cup.
