SPAR is proud to support inclusive grassroots sport through its long-standing partnership with the Lancashire School Games, where more than 80 primary school pupils took part in a competitive Panathlon Final held in Blackpool. SPAR UK regional wholesaler James Hall & Co is a long-term supporter of this annual programme.

The final, hosted at Blackpool Sports Centre, brought together teams from 11 schools across the county to compete in a series of adapted activities designed to promote inclusion, teamwork and confidence-building among children with disabilities and special educational needs.

Championing inclusion through sport

Participants competed across nine activities, including modified football, table cricket, curling, and boccia, with each team aiming to maximise their points within timed sessions. The atmosphere was one of enthusiasm and encouragement, with pupils supporting one another throughout the competition.

At the conclusion of the event, St Anne’s CE Primary School in Rossendale were crowned champions and will progress to the North West Panathlon Finals. Deepdale Community Primary School in Preston secured second place, followed by St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Leyland.

The event was further supported by volunteer Sports Leaders, reflecting the wider developmental opportunities created through the programme.

20 years of community impact

The Panathlon Final forms part of the SPAR Lancashire School Games, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this academic year. Delivered in partnership with Active Lancashire and the School Games Organiser Network, the programme continues to engage and inspire young people across the region.

In the 2025–26 academic year, Panathlon activities have already involved almost 4,000 participants from 570 schools across 55 events in Lancashire, including nine county finals. In addition, nearly 500 young volunteers have contributed as Sports Leaders, gaining valuable skills and experience.

Through initiatives such as the Lancashire School Games, SPAR continues to reinforce its commitment to supporting local communities, encouraging active lifestyles, and creating opportunities for young people to thrive through sport.
