SPAR Netherlands retailer Egbert Oenema renovated his SPAR Supermarket in Echtenerburg, a town in the northern province of Friesland.

For this revamp, he emptied the store with the help of their own ‘skûtsje’ crew of colleagues. After a two-week renovation, a festive reopening took place. The same trusted colleagues still run the store.

Although the retailer has not expanded its footprint, the sales area looks more spacious thanks to an improved layout. The cash registers have been moved forward and the freezers placed against the wall. The bakery department stands out thanks to its eye-catching presentation. During the modernisation, premium sandwich concept The Tosti Club was integrated into the SPAR Supermarket. It is already a great success, with the tasty Spanish toasted sandwich proving to be a customer favourite.

About SPAR Netherlands

The SPAR Brand was founded in the Netherlands in 1932 by the Dutch wholesaler, Adriaan van Well and 16 independent retailers. It was established as a voluntary chain of grocers under the name DESPAR – an acronym of a slogan created by van Well to describe the organisation: Door Eendrachtig Samenwerken Profiteren Allen Regelmatig, which translates in English to All benefit from joint co-operation.

The Head Office and Distribution Centre (DC) are located in Waalwijk, from where support is provided for the almost 450 stores in operation.
