SPAR Italy further expands the brand with EUROSPAR store opening

August 17, 2020 IN THE CATEGORY: Store openings

DESPAR Partner Gruppo 3A has opened a new EUROSPAR store in Bruino, a town near Turin in Northern Italy. The 1,200m2 EUROSPAR offers a modern, pleasant shopping environment where customers can shop at various served fresh counters or choose from the complete grocery assortment.

The delicatessen, food-to-go, fish and seafood, fruit and vegetables, meat, and bakery departments all provide the highest quality products and friendly service. Added to the dry grocery and non-food sections, 8,500 SKUs are available, covering all weekly shopping needs. Gruppo 3A will be linking this store to its DESPAR e-commerce platform, which offers a click-and-collect option, starting in October. The opening of this EUROSPAR follows a conversion of an existing store to the SPAR format.

Gruppo 3A, SPAR Italy Partner in Northwest Italy, has been converting its store portfolio to match the SPAR Brand, after signing a partnership agreement in October 2019 with DESPAR Italia. Within just six weeks over the first two months of 2020, Gruppo 3A rebranded 110 stores to three SPAR formats – EUROSPAR, DESPAR, or DESPAR Express – with the decision on format based on store size, location, and shopping mission.

“The very rapid opening of this EUROSPAR, despite the emergency period we are still experiencing, represents an important milestone that confirms Gruppo 3A’s firm adherence to DESPAR values. This commitment will be further consolidated with new important store openings that will take place in the coming months in the Northwest area, following a rebranding plan of over 130 points of sale in Piedmont, Liguria, and Valle D’Aosta”, commented Lucio Fochesato, General Manager of DESPAR Italy.

A DESPAR 3A loyalty card programme is available to local customers, offering great additional benefits. In a specific a community initiative called ‘Scuola facendo’, designed to help customers with school children, customers can order schoolbooks online and collect these at their local EUROSPAR Supermarket. Customers will be offered a 15% discount voucher on their next book purchases. Within the “Scuola Facendo” initiative, Gruppo 3A will also contribute towards educational material to local schools.

About SPAR Italy

SPAR International first granted a licence for the operation of the SPAR Brand to SPAR Italy in 1959. The first store opened in the latter part of 1960 and with it, SPAR became the first partnership of retailers and wholesalers to operate in Italy. SPAR Italy, known locally as DESPAR Italia, licenses regional partners, all of whom work together to grow the brand across the country.

The DESPAR Partners operate stores under three formats: DESPAR neighbourhood Supermarkets, EUROSPAR Supermarkets and INTERSPAR Hypermarkets. Many of the larger format stores are company-owned, reflecting the scale of investment required. While the majority of the company’s turnover is acquired through these larger format stores, the independently owned neighbourhood supermarkets remain a key part of the business.
