Independent retailers invest in SUPERSPAR stores in South Africa

Independent SPAR retailers have strengthened the brand’s presence in South Africa with two major store developments this October: the relaunch of an expanded and modernised SUPERSPAR Mtunzini in KwaZulu-Natal, and the opening of a new SUPERSPAR at Blue Downs Shopping Centre in the Western Cape.
SUPERSPAR Mtunzini reopens after expansion
On 15 October, the Mtunzini community joined store owners Daniel and Phillipa Verbaan to celebrate the relaunch of SUPERSPAR Mtunzini.
Following an expansion and modernisation, the former SPAR Mtunzini has relaunched as a SUPERSPAR. The transformed store features a new wine section, a revamped bakery and refreshed deli and fresh produce areas, giving customers more to discover on every visit.
While the store has a fresh new look, the qualities at the heart of SUPERSPAR Mtunzini remain unchanged: a welcoming team, positive energy and the high standard of service that Daniel, Phillipa and their colleagues consistently provide to the community.
SUPERSPAR Blue Downs opens in the Western Cape
SUPERSPAR Blue Downs officially opened its doors on 22 October 2026, marking an important milestone for the local community. Designed around the needs of today’s shoppers, the store combines value and everyday convenience with a modern shopping experience.
Located in a high-footfall area, SUPERSPAR Blue Downs offers quality products, affordable prices and everyday essentials. The new store also brings greater choice, convenience and healthy competition to the local retail landscape.
