In addition to the stunning store design, the hypermarket has an extensive range of more than 30,000 products, of which 70% are locally sourced. There is also a convenient Italian style restaurant with a terrace and sea view.
The INTERSPAR Hypermarket was officially opened after only eight months of construction, in the presence of the Mayor of Rijeka and more than 600 guests. It was designed by an internationally acclaimed Rijeka architect.
The new INTERSPAR boasts a completely new interior design concept with a clean and open look and feel. The building is made of natural materials, in line with energy saving trends, and makes use of visually stunning glass, offering a beautiful view of the city of Rijeka. During the entire design and construction process, special attention was paid to the purchasing experience and various other customer needs.
When entering the store under the impressive red SPAR portal through an environmentally friendly revolving door, customers find themselves in a light, open space that gives them access to various departments. One of the highlights of the store is the fresh department with a large offer of local fruits and vegetables, displayed in a market-style atmosphere. Additional points of attraction are the butchery section with an extensive choice of fresh meats and complementary herbs, large value aisles, an extensive health and beauty department, a large self-service area with nuts, juices and ready-to-go meals, and an extensive choice of SPAR’s Own Brand free from range, focusing on the needs of customers with food intolerances.
A total of 120 employees ensure a smooth operational process instore. An underground car park offers space for 222 cars and there’s space for an additional 40 cars in the outdoor parking area in front of the hypermarket.
“€23 million was invested in the INTERSPAR Hypermarket in Rijeka and in addition to the store itself, the project involved the construction of access roads and a roundabout. Customers are assured a safe arrival at INTERSPAR Rijeka thanks to the improved infrastructure,” said CEO of SPAR Croatia, Helmut Fenzl.

About SPAR Croatia
The first SPAR Hypermarket opened in Croatia in mid-2005, following the signing of the licence agreement between ASPIAG (a subsidiary of SPAR Austria AG) and SPAR International in 2004. As a member of the ASPIAG group, SPAR Croatia has access to a wide range of own brand products. Brand development has primarily taken place through SPAR Supermarkets and INTERSPAR Hypermarkets, both through the take-over of existing chains and the opening of new stores.
