The store was constructed according to SPAR Austria Group’s format of the future concept and stands out through its architectural features and state-of-the-art technologies, including underfloor heating, the use of residual heat, as well as energy-saving cooling and lighting technologies.
SPAR Croatia’s CEO Helmut Fenzl attended the opening ceremony on 15 June together with the town’s mayor and said: “I am extremely proud that a flagship store for all of the future SPAR Austria Group’s INTERSPAR Hypermarkets was developed here in Croatia.”
The hypermarket offers over 25,000 food and non-food products on a total retail sales area of 3,000m2. Highlights of the store are its extensive fresh food department with an emphasis on fresh meat, fruits and vegetables, fish, bakery products and an exceptional offer of non-food products, contributing to the premium shopping experience.
In support of local producers, the hypermarket offers an extensive range of local and regional products. Customers can take a break in the instore Tutto Bene café and restaurant, enjoying the rich offer of ready meals.
On the opening day, SPAR Croatia donated €2,650 to the voluntary fire brigade in Velika Gorica.

The first SPAR store opened in Croatia in 2005, following the licence agreement between ASPIAG (Austrian SPAR International AG) and SPAR International in 2004. As a member of the ASPIAG group, SPAR Croatia can access a wide range of own brand products. Brand development has primarily taken place through SPAR Supermarkets and INTERSPAR Hypermarkets, both through the take-over of existing chains and the opening of new stores.
SPAR Croatia is a strong supporter of locally sourced products and cooperates with over 40 small-scale agricultural producers, selling products under ‘The Garden of Croatia’ brand. SPAR also runs a ‘Yes, It’s Local’ campaign to promote local goods.
