SPAR Croatia continues to grow their presence

September 9, 2019 IN THE CATEGORY: Store openings

SPAR Croatia has added two new stores to its network, opening its first supermarket in the town of Križevci and its sixth in Rijeka. These two new openings bring the total number of SPAR stores in the country to 113.

Križevci celebrates first SPAR Supermarket

The new SPAR Supermarket in the central Croatian town of Križevci, has a sales area of 1,231m² and employs 23 people. The new store offers an extensive product range with a strong focus on locally sourced goods, including delicious chocolate from Hedona, where products are made with great care by people living with disabilities. SPAR Croatia has partnered with Hedona since 2015 and thanks to this successful collaboration, the chocolates can now be found in many stores across the country.

Commenting on the new supermarket, Helmut Fenzl, CEO of SPAR Croatia, said: “We are proud to open a SPAR Supermarket in Križevci and to continue the expansion of our store network in this region. We plan to invest and further expand our network, making the brand accessible to as many customers as possible across the country.”

On opening day, there were many promotions and deals for customers to take advantage of, including double loyalty points for the current loyalty programme.

As part of the celebrations, Helmut Fenzl presented a donation to the Association of People with Disabilities in Križevci.

Rijeka welcomes sixth SPAR store

SPAR Croatia has proudly opened its sixth store in Rijeka, the region with the second largest purchasing power in Croatia.

The new 1,470m² SPAR Supermarket is located in the retail park, Marti, in the district of Martinkovac – located just 6km from Rijeka’s city centre, and surrounded by an extensively developed residential area.

The SPAR store is situated on the ground floor of the retail park and provides employment to 35 people from the local community. For easy shopping, customers have direct access to the store via a lift from the parking garage.

The extensive product range includes A-brands, SPAR Own Brands, a wide selection of DESPAR Italia Own Brand products, and other well-known Italian branded goods. A large focus has also been placed on stocking locally-sourced fresh produce.

Enthusiastic about this new store, SPAR Croatia CEO, Helmut Fenzl, said: “With three SPAR Supermarkets and two INTERSPAR Hypermarkets already in operation in Rijeka, we are thrilled to have launched our sixth in the city. We are pleased that our new stores in Rijeka are increasingly located in neighbourhoods, providing our customers with better accessibility and greater choice.”

About SPAR Croatia

The first SPAR store opened in Croatia in mid-2005, following the signing of the licence agreement between ASPIAG (Austrian SPAR International AG) and SPAR International in 2004.

As a member of the ASPIAG group, SPAR Croatia has access to a wide range of own brand products. Brand development has primarily taken place through SPAR Supermarkets and INTERSPAR Hypermarkets, both through the take-over of existing chains and the opening of new stores.
