SPAR is proud to continue its long-standing commitment to European Athletics as the principal sponsor of the 2025 European Athletics Team Championships – 1st Division, taking place in Madrid, Spain, from 26–29 June.

This event is one of the key highlights of the European athletics calendar, bringing together the continent’s top national teams for a showcase of elite performance and team spirit.

A vibrant host city

Madrid, renowned for its rich sporting heritage and passionate sporting fans, will welcome the 1st Division’s 16 strongest national teams, including Germany, France, Italy, Great Britain & Northern Ireland, Poland, and host nation Spain. The competition will take place at the Centro Deportivo Municipal Moratalaz, a top-tier athletics venue with a history of hosting national and international events.

A team-based championship with national pride at stake

In this unique format, athletes compete not only for individual accolades, but to also earn points for their national teams across a full range of track and field disciplines: sprints, middle- and long-distance races, hurdles, jumps, throws, and relays. Final team rankings will determine promotion and relegation across divisions, making every performance count and adding the characteristics of team sport are added to a usually individual sport.

More than 400 elite athletes will compete, including Olympic medallists and European champions. Among the big names expected are Jakob Ingebrigtsen (Norway), Keely Hodgkinson (Great Britain), Armand Duplantis (Sweden), and Spain’s own María Pérez, the reigning world champion in race walking.
