SPAR Scotland’s Future Stars Cup inspiring girls football

October 16, 2026 IN THE CATEGORY: Sport sponsorship

SPAR Scotland’s continuing partnership with the Scottish Football Association (Scottish FA) is helping to transform opportunities for young girls in football across Scotland.

Since launching its partnership with the Scottish FA in 2019, SPAR Scotland has played a key role in supporting the growth of girls’ and women’s football through its sponsorship of the Scotland Women’s National Team and grassroots participation initiatives. One of the standout successes of the partnership has been the SPAR Future Stars Cup, a nationwide schools football competition designed to encourage girls aged 12 to 16 to get active, develop their skills, and enjoy football in a fun, inclusive, and competitive environment.

The SPAR Future Stars Cup grown into one of Scotland’s leading schoolgirls’ football tournaments. Approximately 3,000 girls from across Scotland have taken part, with participation continuing to grow year on year. The 2025 finals attracted more than 400 girls from schools nationwide, highlighting the tournament’s increasing popularity and impact. By creating accessible pathways into football, the tournament is helping to build confidence, encourage active lifestyles, and inspire future generations of female athletes.

Paula Middleton, Head of Marketing at CJ Lang & Son Ltd, recently reflected on the tournament’s journey, noting how it has continued to grow from strength to strength since its inception and expressing excitement for the 2027 edition.

The success of the SPAR Future Stars Cup demonstrates the power of sport sponsorship when it is rooted in community engagement. By investing in grassroots participation, SPAR Scotland supports football development while creating positive experiences that encourage teamwork, inclusion, healthy lifestyles, and lifelong participation in sport.

The partnership was further strengthened through an extension with the Scottish FA, reinforcing SPAR Scotland’s long-term commitment to supporting women’s and girls’ football and ensuring more young people have opportunities to participate in the game. The collaboration also includes support for the Scotland Women’s National Team and the continued development of grassroots football programmes across the country.

Supporting Communities Through Sport

Across the SPAR network, sport sponsorship remains a powerful way of promoting health, wellbeing, community engagement, and opportunity. SPAR Scotland’s work with the Scottish FA is an excellent example of how local partnerships can create lasting social impact while helping young people build confidence, friendships, and a passion for sport.

As preparations begin for the 2026/27 SPAR Future Stars Cup, schools across Scotland can already register, ensuring the tournament continues to provide an inspiring platform for the next generation of football talent.
