INTERSPAR Hypermarket Tatabánya in Hungary wins Store of the Year Award

June 5, 2018 IN THE CATEGORY: Awards and prizes

INTERSPAR Hypermarket Tatabánya in Hungary recently won the Élelmiszer magazine’s Store of the Year award in the hypermarket category. The expert panel made its decision based on the store’s product range, sustainability measures, standards of service and its instore design. The INTERSPAR was also awarded the title of Most Attractive Delicatessen Counter.

“We are very proud that an INTERSPAR Hypermarket has once again been recognised with the Store of the Year title, after our INTERSPAR in Érd was ranked first in the category last year. In previous years, the expert panel found our SPAR stores in the Mammut and MOM Park shopping centres to be the best in the large-size supermarket category. Winning the award for the fourth time is clear recognition that we are performing well,” said Márk Maczelka, Head of Communications at SPAR Hungary.

The Tatabánya INTERSPAR Hypermarket was reopened at the end of November 2017, after extensive renovations. The positive upward trend in retail turnover in the town and the region as a whole, supported the major investment, carried out under the principle of experience-focused shopping, in accordance with 21st century consumer demands. The modern hypermarket follows a concept carefully designed by Hungarian and international experts, based on high-quality materials and energy-saving solutions.

In the course of the five months of development with a budget of about €8 million,  the facade was modernised, as well as the 5,000 m² retail sales area. Shoppers can now choose from over 20,000 products in an attractive, modern shopping environment.

The store also stands out for its energy-efficiency, with LED lighting and environmentally friendly cooling equipment.

The scope of services includes a SPAR-to-Go restaurant where freshly prepared hot meals, pizzas, grilled dishes, roasts, sandwiches, salads and soft drinks are available to shoppers.

SPAR Hungary is committed to high-quality retail trade which relies on consistent brand-building and a sound development strategy, taking into account the interests of consumers. The awards and international certifications also confirm the importance of innovation and quality for SPAR. SPAR Hungary plans to continue investing in its store network, with a budget of €73 million for store developments in 2018.
