SPAR is the proud principal sponsor of the SPAR European Cross Country Championships which will be held in Italy on Sunday, 11 December 2022. The 28th edition of the Championships will take place at La Mandria Park in Piemonte on the outskirts of Turin. 528 (276 men, 252 women) athletes from 37 countries will be competing. Since 1996, SPAR’s sponsorship of European Athletics has delivered an elevated level of exposure for the brand. 

The most important Cross Country event on the European Athletics calendar attracts the best distance running talents for both genders from Europe in the U20, U23 and senior categories. A mixed relay is the latest addition to the annual programme.

La Mandria Park in Piemonte covers 3,600 hectares and is said to be the largest enclosed park in Europe. The Championships takes place against the striking and picturesque backdrop of La Mandria Castle, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Admission to La Mandria Park will be free on race day and the entire event will be livestreamed through the European Athletics website. In Italy, the SPAR brand is operated by a consortium of independent wholesalers and retailers under license from DESPAR Italia. First introduced in 1959, the SPAR presence has in recent years spread into new territories, including that operated by Gruppo 3A, a member of the consortium since October 2019. DESPAR Italia is a strong supporter of the Championships, promoting the competition to viewers nationwide. Onsite, fans and spectators will experience SPAR hospitality with the activities organised by the local and national DESPAR Italia teams.

As principal sponsor of the Cross Country Championships, SPAR will have a strong brand presence at the event. The strong brand visibility will be highlighted through television broadcasting and via livestreaming, sports casters, sports publications, and social media coverage of the event.
