SPAR Slovenia invests €6 million in modernising INTERSPAR Vič

September 20, 2018 IN THE CATEGORY: Store openings

Following a 4-month renovation period, SPAR Slovenia recently reopened the revitalised and enlarged INTERSPAR Hypermarket Vič in the capital city Ljubljana. The renovated store and associated restaurant offer customers an even better shopping experience in a modern and environmentally friendly atmosphere.

This is now one of the cutting-edge superstores in Slovenia. The large market-place area offers a wide variety of seasonal fruit and vegetables whilst the delicatessen abounds with cheese, meat products and Mediterranean specialties. The SPAR Bakery offers more than 80 products freshly baked instore and self-service shelving was introduced to enhance the shopping experience, offering an additional 40 items. The Butcher’s Shop has a wide range of fresh meat sourced from domestic suppliers, complemented by selected specialties from around the world. The enlarged fish department offers a rich variety of fresh and seawater fish, shellfish and frozen produce. For those in a hurry, the SPAR to Go section offers a large variety of freshly prepared salads, sandwiches and desserts as well as pre-chilled drinks.

Igor Mervič, Managing Director of SPAR Slovenia, said: “For us at SPAR, our customers always come first, and our focus during the renovation has been to create a high quality and modern shopping experience. We are pleased that the result includes an extensive choice, a pleasant ambience, supported by the entire team offering friendly service, all of which we believe will ensure our customers enjoy themselves and return.”

The restaurant was also updated at the same time, including an updated menu offer for shoppers. The INTERSPAR Hypermarket now spreads out to almost 7,000m² with 133 employees offering high quality service to customers whilst another 32 employees offer great service in the restaurant.

SPAR Slovenia places great emphasis on sustainable operations and energy-conscious construction of stores. Like in the renovated Citypark, the INTERSPAR Vič hypermarket contains numerous environmentally friendly improvements. Energy-saving LED-lighting has been implemented; refrigerators and freezers have doors resulting in lower energy consumption. The SPAR Bakery operates an oven powered by wood pellets which have the advantage over fossil fuels of being a renewable, energy-efficient and environmentally friendly energy source. The “System Transkritisch CO2” was installed for heating and cooling of the store which uses cooling appliances based on CO2 gas with waste heat originating from cooling appliances being used for heating the store in winter, and for cooling in summer, making the store environmentally friendly and independent of conventional energy sources.
