For the fourth consecutive year, SPAR Gran Canaria partners with the Agricultural Cooperative Society of San Nicolás (COAGRISAN) to promote the production of tomatoes from La Aldea. The agreement sees the exclusive distribution of the tomatoes grown in La Aldea to 195 SPAR stores across the island.
The 2024 campaign estimates that approximately 600,000 kilos of tomatoes will be sold, mainly of the pyrenean variety. Through the agreement, SPAR Gran Canaria once again guarantees COAGRISAN the commercialisation of its crops at a fair price. This partnership supports the jobs of the 78 farmers and over 700 families on the island who are part of COAGRISAN.
For the second year, SPAR Gran Canaria collaborated with six local farmers from Vallesco to promote the local reineta apple. The 2023 marketing campaign led to the sale of 10,800kg of locally-sourced apples, 2,800kg over the original projection.
SPAR ensures that the apples are available to consumers at a fair price. The agreement also shortens payment timelines which further supports the producers. Additionally, SPAR takes responsibility for transporting apples from Valleseco to its fruit and vegetable division in Mercalaspalmas. The produce is then distributed to 196 SPAR outlets across the island’s 21 municipalities.
In the lead-up to Valentines Day, SPAR Gran Canaria offered customers a special promotion of strawberries grown in Valsequillo in special heart-shaped cases. This was part of SPAR’s continued initiatives to promote the consumption of strawberries harvested in Valsequillo.

SPAR Spain was founded in 1959 when a group of wholesalers who wished to join an international organisation came together. As a result, the brand became the first voluntary trading chain to be established in Spain, having been granted a license by SPAR International. Together, 13 regional SPAR wholesalers actively continue the expansion of the brand across the country.
