This special occasion box can be purchased at SPAR stores throughout the country, or online on SPAR.nl. Orders placed online can be delivered to delight grandparents with a surprise at home, even when they cannot receive visitors due to restrictions around the coronavirus.
SPAR will donate 10% of the income from the sale of the Grandpa and Grandma Boxes to ‘Met je Hart’, a local charity that seeks to relieve loneliness among the elderly. This charity has also received SPAR Netherlands’ support on previous occasions. Last Christmas, for example, colleagues from SPAR Netherlands who volunteered through ‘Met je Hart’ (With your Heart) visited elderly people and celebrated Christmas together.
The SPAR Box was featured in a video by Furtjuh – a famous YouTube vlogger in the Netherlands – who presented his grandmother with the SPAR Gift Box. Furtjuh’s YouTube Channel has almost a quarter of a million subscribers.

The SPAR Brand was founded in the Netherlands in 1932 by the Dutch wholesaler, Adriaan van Well and 16 independent retailers. It was established as a voluntary chain of grocers under the name DESPAR – an acronym of a slogan created by van Well to describe the organisation: Door Eendrachtig Samenwerken Profiteren Allen Regelmatig, which translates in English to All benefit from joint co-operation.
