Announcing the race at a ceremony in Windhoek, Namibia
Download imageSet for 29 March at Wanderers Field, this year’s event will feature 5- and 10-kilometre races. For those unable to attend in person, participants can join virtually, running or walking from any location – whether on a road, trail, treadmill, gym, or track.
Athletes will compete for prize money in the various age groups in the 10km run. All are invited to enter the 5km fun run, including by walking. SPAR Namibia is a strong supporter of community races and connects to the longstanding promotion of women’s races in neighbouring South Africa.
The goal is to elevate the race to the SPAR Grand Prix series status, with the hope of attracting international runners from places like Kenya in the future.
The SPAR Namibia Women’s race director Berthold Karumendu confirmed that everything is in place for a smooth event. “Last year, we had about 1,000 entries, and this year, we aim to double that number. We’re also tying this event to a campaign to end gender-based violence,” said Berthold Karumendu.
All race entry funds will be donated to a charity supporting women in need. Retail Operations Director for SPAR Namibia, Eugene van Wyngaard, emphasised that the money raised will directly benefit women and children in Namibia.
