The donation will be distributed among food banks and Social Services located in the 10 municipalities through which the challenge was routed. The General Director of SPAR Gran Canaria, Dunia Pérez, handed over the merchandise on 4 September to the event organizers  – the Koalas Team Sports Club.

The runners Iván Galván and Nacho García del Castillo completed the “COVID-19 Kilometres Solidarity Challenge”, running 143 kilometres throughout 10 municipalities of the island. Held on 29 and 30 August, the aim was to collect food for vulnerable families in each municipality and, at the same time, promote physical activity as a healthy lifestyle habit.

The 11 SPAR stores located along the route collaborated with the solidarity initiative by collecting more than 100 kilos of food and hygiene products kindly donated by customers. In addition, the stores had tents available which served as refreshment points for the athletes to rehydrate and refresh themselves throughout the challenge.
