SPAR Gran Canaria renews its alliance with Museo Canario

March 20, 2024 IN THE CATEGORY: Community, People, Responsible retailing

For the fifth consecutive year, SPAR Spain partner in Gran Canaria reaffirms its commitment to the island's heritage and culture by renewing its alliance with El Museo Canario's monthly 'Family visits' programme.

This free project offers families on the island the opportunity to enjoy culture and interact with the history and identity of the Canary Islands through fun activities such as workshops, games and ludic visits, maintaining its monthly structure.

Last year’s success with ‘Family Visits’ is evident in the participation of 129 families and 346 attendees across 12 sessions. The upcoming session, a painting workshop, kicked off the 2024 programme at the end of February. The programme features activities like ‘Handmade’, storytelling, exhibition workshops, writing in time, and archaeology.

Committed to culture

SPAR Gran Canaria sponsors the educational programme to contribute to Sustainable Development Goal 4: ‘Quality Education’. The initiative promotes the teaching of history to develop social skills, foster values of inclusion, sustainability, solidarity and equality, and incorporate technological innovation for an immersive learning experience.

In addition, SPAR’s commitment to the local culture is evidenced by its support for the folk group Los Gofiones and its continued sponsorship of the SPAR Guerra del Río lateen sailing boat, which celebrates its 20th and 21st anniversary, respectively.

About SPAR Spain

SPAR Spain was founded in 1959 when a group of wholesalers who wished to join an international organisation came together. As a result, the brand became the first voluntary trading chain to be established in Spain, having been granted a license by SPAR International. Together, 13 regional SPAR wholesalers actively continue the expansion of the brand across the country.
