SPAR Gran Canaria and non-profit organisation Cáritas Diocesana de Canarias have formalised an agreement to support local families most affected by the current pandemic.

As part of the agreement, SPAR Gran Canaria will issue wallet cards which can be used by the most vulnerable population of Gran Canaria to stock up on daily necessities. The cards will be valid at all 191 SPAR supermarkets on the island.

“During this health and social crisis, the commitment of companies to face situations of poverty and social exclusion on the island is essential”, Gonzalo Marrero, Director of Cáritas Dioscesana, said. “With these wallet cards, vulnerable families can access the products they need with autonomy and dignity.”

SPAR Gran Canaria has multiplied in recent months the funds allocated to donations and other community efforts. The company has so far this year donated more than 130,000 kilogrammes of food to local charities such as Cáritas Diocesana de Canarias, Red Cross and Food Banks, as well as different associations, foundations, municipal social services and NGOs.
