SPAR Spain partner in Gran Canaria supports local young talent through the fifth edition of the 'Youth Talent Scholarship' programme.

Promoting culture and sport

This initiative is part of SPAR Gran Canaria’s corporate social responsibility programme, which helps to maintain culture and sport among the youth on the island. The fifth edition will allocate up to 3,000 euros in scholarships to support applicants’ studies and advancement in sports, cultural, and gastronomic disciplines.

Inspiration from previous participants

The previous edition of the SPAR Gran Canaria ‘Youth Talent Scholarship’ was awarded to the young windsurfer Bruno Bárbara Tor. Through the scholarship, he was able to cover the expenses to participate in the World Championships, where he took home the title as World Champion for the second consecutive year. Gymnast María Juste Marrero was also a previous participant, who was able to cover the costs of training, equipment and travel to continue her preparation and attendance at regional and national competitions.

Young violinist, Gabriel Meneses Franco, was able to acquire his first luthier violin, in addition to enrolling in his studies at the Professional Conservatory of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The financial support from SPAR Gran Canaria helped to cover his musical training and necessary teaching materials such as books, strings and sheet music.

About SPAR Spain

SPAR Spain was founded in 1959 when a group of wholesalers who wished to join an international organisation came together. As a result, the brand became the first voluntary trading chain to be established in Spain, having been granted a license by SPAR International. Together, 13 regional SPAR wholesalers actively continue the expansion of the brand across the country.
